Letter to the Editor
Amnesty International not protesting the war

I am a member of Amnesty International, so I guess I am one of the few protesters "who deserve any ounce of respect," according to "Without protesters, there wouldn't be a war" (March 25 column). Unfortunately, the author has been misinformed. Amnesty International is not protesting military action right now. Amnesty acknowledges that human rights violations happen during war, and they condemn those violations, but they do not take a stance on war.

In addition, Amnesty prints out an annual report on human rights violations in every country. I suggest you check it out. In particular, don't forget to read the many pages on Turkey's horrible human rights violations, and while you are reading, don't forget we have been pleading with this country for air space and consider Turkey to be an ally.

Somewhat similar to the Iran/Iraq war, when we supported Iraq and knew of the human rights violations, no? This war isn't being waged for human rights and liberation. Get your facts straight.
