[ Tuesday, March 4, 2003 ] Letter to the Editor
Main goal is to stop Saddam's threat to U.S.
This letter demonstrates why debating the Iraq issue with liberals in an exercise in futility ("Bush is not concerned with improving Iraq," Feb. 27). When presented with a rock solid reason to finish a war started 13 years ago -- namely, that Iraq has been told 17 times already by the civilized world to destroy its weapons of mass destruction -- liberals always distort the argument. The dialogue between a "dove" and a "hawk" goes something to the effect of: Hawk: "We're going into Iraq to enforce 17 U.N. mandates and remove the threat the Hussein poses to the United States." Dove: "But Bush doesn't care about the Iraqi people." Hawk: "That's not the issue, we're protecting Americans." Dove: "But Bush doesn't care about the Iraqi people." The debate over Iraq has evolved into little more than an argument with a child, where the part of the adolescent is skillfully played by the American Left. At no point has the United States ever claimed that its primary motivation behind finishing the war in Iraq is to free the Iraqi people. Liberation of these long-oppressed people will be one of the many positive by-products of removing the clear and present threat that Saddam Hussein poses to America. I encourage all those patriotic and national security minded Americans to go to www.patriotpetitions.us and sign the petition in support of war against Saddam Hussein. Let it be said that when our president and Congress declared war on terrorism in defense of our nation, American patriots responded with overwhelming support. Kevin Madsen
