A charter airplane struck part of the approach lighting system at University Park Airport Sunday morning, said Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Falcon Air Express Boeing 727 was on its landing approach when the accident occurred, Peters said. Airport manager Bob Dannaker added that the plane came to pick up a charter group, and only the crew of seven was aboard. There were no injuries.
Peters said Falcon reported minor damage to the aircraft, which the company will repair, and the FAA will replace the light towers. There is no estimated cost.
"We won't get into that," Peters said. "We'll just go out and repair it."
The two destroyed light towers probably will not have an effect on flights, Dannaker said.
Peters said FAA has no comment on the cause of the accident, which is under investigation.
Falcon is a private charter airline based in Miami, with a fleet of eight Boeing 727 airplanes.
