Term 'homophobia' shouldn't be needed

Re: "Definition of 'homophobia' has become too inclusive," Feb. 25 column. Today, it seems, the last acceptable form of discrimination is one geared toward sexual orientation.

This column is a clear example of the bigotry that still exists in our country today. Educating people on homophobia is a push toward tolerance, not a ploy to make people feel bad for having morals.

The author seems to believe that a hatred of gay people can be equated to a fear of heights. Homophobia is not a psychological disorder, it is a form of discrimination that plagues our laws, our classes, our everyday lives.

Until the term "homophobia" need not exist, I suggest the author stop
worrying about how inclusive it is, and start finding ways to eradicate its presence in our language. As a white
male, Mr. Gibbons, you have the power. Use it.
