What is the definition of homophobia? Most of you would think: Someone who is afraid of homosexuals. You're only part right.
According to a few psychologists and others on the far left of the political spectrum, the definition of homophobia ranges from disgust of homosexuals to acceptance. Gay people can be homophobes too.
Hey, that makes just about everyone a homophobe! They even believe that acceptance implies that something is wrong with homosexuality.
What happened to being scared? Now, being scared is linked to hate and discrimination. Fear leads to hate, hate leads to anger, anger leads to the dark side -- homophobia. There is something wrong with the new liberal definition of homophobia. The only phobia to be so heavily discriminated against is homophobia.
People who fear small spaces or spiders do not get nearly as much grief and trouble from the left. Ironically, the left wishes to "educate" these homophobes to end their fear and make them more agreeable to homosexuality. But educating gays on how homosexuality is sinful and unnatural is bad and homophobic. See any hypocrisy?
So, how do you not be a homophobe, according to their definition? You have to support gays, believe homosexuality is natural, admire them, appreciate them and nurture them. If you don't, these people will be morally opposed to your opinions -- excuse me, angry with your homophobia.
So, you're a Christian? Do you think homosexuality is morally wrong; you hate the sin but love the sinner? Well, you are a homophobe. Your morals do not count; your morals are wrong; only the morals of the radical left are acceptable.
Hey, maybe that's why they create laws and rules to codify their morals. Does the idea of gay people kissing or doing adult things gross you out? Do you feel uncomfortable around gay people? Well, you're a homophobe.
It is OK for gay people to feel different; but, you can't feel uncomfortable, because it is wrong. Do you say things like: "You're not gay to me; you're a person" or "What you do in bed is your own business" or "That's fine as long as you don't flaunt it?" Yup, you're a homophobe.
Do you think homosexuality is not natural? Do you think people choose to be gay and are not born gay, despite the fact that, biologically speaking, homosexuality is not natural. Noting that male and female humans (and their sexual organs) were built to procreate, homosexuality is a biological mistake because one cannot procreate with someone of the same sex. But that's only true if you believe gay people are born. If they choose to be gay, it's not a mistake, it's a choice. So, believing homosexuals are born also makes you a homophobe as does believing that it is a choice.
So, what's my problem with this? My problem is calling someone a homophobe just because somebody has a different opinion. The liberal left and the homosexuals that subscribe to these definitions of homophobia are intolerant of those opinions.
They justify their intolerance by suggesting that anyone who disagrees is a bad person. First of all, tolerance does not mean acceptance, it does not mean we must support, and it does not mean that we must admire anyone.
Tolerance means you put up with something, like you'd put up with a crying baby on an airplane. If someone finds homosexuality annoying, that is their belief and their opinion; tolerate it!
Stop the name-calling. Stop redefining social phobias to fit your ideological and political agendas. To tolerate homosexuality, one does not have to agree with it, support it or think it is natural.
The next time someone says homosexuality is wrong, disgusting or that they'd just rather not see it, respect their opinion and tolerate them.
The people who have been called "homophobes" in the past have a right to think this and to say it. It does not make them homophobic because this radical definition is wrong and intolerant.
Likewise, homosexuals have the right to be gay and be proud of it. They cannot demand that people tolerate them if they do not reciprocate that tolerance.
Do you still think I'm a homophobe? Well, that makes you intolerant of my opinions. That intolerance makes you a bigot. Hey, maybe then I will start calling you a "heterophobe."
