The floor of Rec Hall trembled with howls and applause from dancers and onlookers as Thon organizers announced the 2003 Dance Marathon totals last night.

Crowned with a sparkling tiara and showered with bouquets, Naomi Williams was awarded the honor of Miss Black Penn State 2003 Saturday night in front of a nearly packed Schwab Auditorium.

Local bar and club managers are confident their establishments will not be the locations for fatal events such as the ones that occurred in Chicago and West Warwick, R.I., last week.

Penn State senior Heather Agnew is one of 42 students nationwide this year to receive the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, valued at as much as $150,000.

Schlow Memorial Library is $1.1 million away from the $3 million needed for a new facility, Patricia Best, the library's campaign community chair, announced Saturday.

Chalk one up to the luck of the Irish.

A loss to Notre Dame two weeks ago showed the nine-time NCAA champion Penn State fencing team that even it can be vulnerable on any given day.

Records are made to be broken. Just ask the Big Ten women's swimming teams.

Sean Crosby, Thon chair for Penn State Hazelton Campus, admitted he'd found a way to tell time in the middle of an entirely clock-free Thon.

Dancers in the 31st annual Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon broke a record this year as they became the first group to learn the entire line dance in 68 minutes, beating last year's time by 11 minutes.

There are many jobs that happen behind the scenes at the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, and some volunteers had duties that extended well beyond doing the line dance.

The most recent challenge for some cast members of MTV's The Real World and Road Rules was the fight against cancer.

Dancers at this year's Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon crowded the makeshift runway during the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show, as Four Diamonds Fund children, students, Hilfiger models and Road Rules cast members revealed the company's new spring line to Thon-goers.

Five middle school students and their counselor drove nine hours this weekend from a much warmer, drier North Carolina to see the inspiration for their own mini dance-a-thon.

For some student organizations, Thon is an opportunity to get involved with campus activities -- but not without a lot of hard work and a hefty price tag.

For some newcomers, the revelry in Rec Hall was overwhelming and astonishing when they first stepped onto the floor of this weekend's Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

After nearly three months, the second annual 2003 Thon Blood Drive has come to an end.
