Letter to the Editor
Iraq's neighbors are friendly with the U.S.

The author of "U.S. wasn't consulted before it was attacked" asserted that it would be ludicrous to consult the Iraqi people before going to war. Although he is correct, it is important to remember that Iraq has neighbors, such as Turkey and Jordan, who have been important friends and allies to the United States. The interests of these nations and their contribution to the international dialogue must be respected.

Instead, however, the author would have us place a blanket label of "Islamic extremists" on all Arab nations, regardless of their history or politics. Aside from being a grave error and completely unfounded, this policy would represent American racism at its "best." The author makes statements such as "I would much rather a million of their children to one of ours," which can only be interpreted as applying to every Muslim. Even if I am outrageously mistaken, one cannot interpret this statement any more softly than to apply to the entire populace of Iraq.

I find this assertion personally offensive. The most generous possible interpretation labels an entire group of people based on the actions of a few, is entirely unjust, and is therefore something that we as Americans should strive to overcome at every possible turn.

Furthermore, to label every Muslim in the world as a hate-monger and to wish on them complete annihilation is more akin to Adolf Hitler's statements than anything is that has yet been heard in this debate.
