Problem in fraternity possible in any group

In regards to the comments on Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity ("IFC shouldn't reinstate embarrassing fraternity," Feb. 7 letter): I am surprised and disappointed to read these uneducated comments and ignorant remarks. Being a part of the greek community now for almost four years, one thing I have learned is that it is impossible to judge a group of 60 or more sisters or brothers based on the supposed actions of a single member.

I have met more upstanding and genuine men in fraternities that have lost their chapters than I can count. Yes, these men should be responsible for the actions of a man they call "brother." But I'm sure even in your own chapter, you are not able to monitor the actions of every man 100 percent of the time.

As soon as this chapter was aware of what was occurring, this man was removed immediately from the chapter and action was taken to rectify the results of his behavior. Believe it or not, something to this effect could occur in any of our chapters in the greek community, or any organization for that matter, including your own.

I doubt you would like to be labeled for every mistake each brother in your own house has made or will make. Sometimes we forget that our loyalty should go beyond the doors of our own chapter, but should extend to the entire greek community.

As a fraternity man, I would hope that your future judgements would not generalize a group like this. Because unless you have met every individual that wears the letters, you cannot say they do not deserve the same chance you would ask for your own chapter.
