Cameras will destroy student, town relations

As disturbing as the thought of being constantly monitored by big brother's strategically placed cameras is, what I find truly offensive is that it is being done under the guise of protecting students. Personally, I can't think of a better way to drive a wedge between student and town relations. This proposal is not only deliberately targeted at students, but it is also strongly opposed by the student body. Cathy Dauler, the council member who recommended the use of cameras, said, "I think we must do whatever is necessary to protect students." To Ms. Dauler I say that I am not willing to give up my right to privacy in exchange for this additional "protection." In the words of Benjamin Franklin, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
