The White Building gained six Arc Trainers, which are new to the facility, as well as five additional devices.

The White Building has squeezed 11 more machines into the cardiovascular room of the MBNA Fitness Center.

Six Arc Trainers, three more Elliptical machines and two more Stepmills were added to accommodate the heavy student traffic.

"With how busy it is, we saw an opportunity to provide more equipment," said Michelle Rockower, a supervisor at the White Building.

Adam Price (junior-telecommunications) is a desk attendant at the gym. He said he has seen "just a bunch of smiles" since the addition.

"It's not as crowded back here, which makes it better for everyone," Price said. "They don't have to wait in that big line and then come in here and wait again."

The Arc Trainer, which is a cross between an Elliptical and Stepmill machine, is a new type of machine for the Fitness Center.

White Building staff members have encouraged patrons to try out the new equipment since it was delivered a week ago, Rockower said. When a new piece of equipment is added, people are timid and apprehensive to try it, she added.

Price said the wait for the elliptical machines took up to 20 minutes earlier this semester.

With the additions, Price said the wait has been reduced or even eliminated.

Heather Tennis (junior-industrial engineering) said she is pleased with the addition.

"[The room] is a little crowded, but it's not too bad," she said. "It's worth it for the machines, to not wait in line."

The effect has not been as dramatic for other students. Dana Markovics (junior-psychology) noticed people switching from treadmills to the elliptical machines because they did not have to wait as long, but she is not changing her routine.

"There's less of a line, but I use the treadmill and they didn't add any of those, so I still have to wait," Markovics said.

White Building management decided to add Arc Trainers instead of more treadmills in order to give students more choices. Mark Lozinski, a supervisor at the White Building, said the equipment company originally sent a demo of an Arc Trainer and people responded positively, so they added more.

"We could put in 60 treadmills or 60 Ellipticals, but that doesn't give much variety for people to choose from," Lozinski said.

Jared Melzer (junior-kinesiology) said the new machines were beneficial, but that expanding the gym would be the best choice.

"There's only so many machines you can fit into this room," he said.
