Crowd distracted by laughing and clapping
I must say I agree wholeheartedly with Brendan Morse's thoughts on the Spike Lee speech ("Crowd at Lee speech was inconsiderate," Jan. 30 letter). I noticed several very upsetting audience outbursts. For instance, people in attendance would often put their hands together and make a clapping sound. They did this through the speech for the very moment Mr. Lee walked out until the the moment he left the stage! I found this extremely distracting. Also, people would continually "laugh" when Mr. Lee would tell a joke or make a humorous comment. The unmitigated gall of these individuals infuriates me even now, days after the speech. I thought this was college not preschool. I hope in the future people will save their so-called "applause" and "laughter" for a more appropriate atmosphere. Morgan Evans
