A Ferguson Township resident was arraigned Tuesday after police allegedly found child pornography on his computer.
Thomas R. Koval II, 22, who lives at 801 Aaron Drive but lists his home address as Clarks Summit, faces 41 counts each of sexual abuse of children and criminal use of a communication facility.
Penn State Police Services said there is no apparent connection between Koval and an unidentified Penn State student who is also being investigated for possession of child pornography. Police, however, are following leads in that case that may result in additional arrests.
According to the criminal complaint, the case against Koval began Oct. 16 when the Ferguson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call and found the suspect unconscious and vomiting blood in an apparent suicide attempt.
Det. Brian Sprinkle said police began searching Koval's computer to find information to assist them in their investigation.
"Officers were looking for a suicide note, a prescription list or relative information," Sprinkle said, adding that Koval's condition gave police probable cause to search the computer.
Sprinkle said that while searching the computer they found files titled "Kids Peeing" and "Kiddie Porn." Officers at the scene stopped their search and secured the room until a search warrant could be obtained to confiscate the computer and have it analyzed by the Pennsylvania State Police.
The computer was allegedly found to contain 41 downloaded images of nude girls under the age of 18.
"All of the images depict very young girls in the nude," the police document said.
Some of the images had the addresses of various Web sites printed on them where police said they found additional child pornography, according to the criminal complaint.
On one of the Web sites, police said there were images of nude girls between the ages of 7 and 14 years old.
Koval was released on $10,000 unsecured bond and faces his preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte.
