Letter to the Editor
Pro-lifers not against women or choice

In response to Ms. Antonazzo's letter ("Pro-lifers should try new actions for goals," Jan. 27 letter), I would just like to first of all empathize with her confrontation with the man who yelled in her face. Being pro-life myself, I also have been approached by members of the pro-choice movement while I attend rallies. It is an unfortunate part of any political event, one that is experienced by everyone with a controversial stance. I hope that she realizes that one or two people do not represent the entire pro-life movement.

I would also like to address her claim that pro-lifers (or anti-choicers, as she likes to address us) are anti-woman. Perhaps it should be pointed out that one of the greatest feminists of all time, Susan B. Anthony, and many of her contemporaries, were pro-life. I am not anti-woman. I believe that by supporting women in their time of greatest need instead of pushing abortion on them as their "only real option" is much more empathetic and supportive of women and feminist cause. Also, Ms. Antonazzo stated that pro-lifers do not attempt to educate about how to prevent pregnancy. The most practical, and only absolute, way to prevent an unplanned pregnancy is to abstain from sex. We teach this everywhere we can.

And as for making "emergency contraception" more available, perhaps Ms. Antonazzo has failed to realize that the "morning-after pill" and other such "emergency contraception" are abortive medications, designed to keep embryos from implanting in the uterine wall and thereby causing an abortion themselves.

There are thousands of crisis pregnancy centers that provide services to women who face crisis pregnancies all across the United States and all over the world. These centers are run and operated in order to provide women with a real choice, not just offering one solution, abortion, as the only option. That is the spirit of the pro-life movement. We are pro-woman, pro-child and pro-life.
