I recently received a letter from the Nittany Lion Club asking me to support Penn State athletics and the wonderful accomplishments of the football and men's basketball teams. Needless to say, I started laughing and threw the letter in the garbage.
I love PSU, but don't insult my intelligence. As long as Jerry Dunn continues to coach the men's basketball team I will not be a sucker and contribute a dime to our athletic programs. He has been given plenty of time to put together a program worth supporting and has shown over and over again that he can't get the job done.
Jerry was handed an absolute gift in the 95/96 season with an NCAA team and a brand new sold out arena. He could sell recruits on the Big Ten, the BJC, great fan support, great academics, and a season that resulted with a five seed in the NCAAs.
Not only did Jerry not build on that momentum, but in three short years he would totally squander it and lose to Northwestern a record-setting three times in one year. Penn State for the second year in a row will finish the season behind several schools that many people have never even heard of. It will be the seventh year in a row that Penn State under Jerry will finish out of the top half of the league, at every other school in the league that gets you fired. If that's not enough, the BJC now looks like a Temple home football game vs Akron at the Vet. The program has fallen so far that our best player right now is a freshman walk on and in two games against Ivy League teams this year we lost by a combined 41 points. Enough is enough.
