Letter to the Editor
Irregular use of gyms isn't good for anyone

I write to applaud Kristin Guttridge for her letter ("Inconsistent gym users should just stop now," Jan. 17 letter). It has gone too long for this topic to be unheard. I am a passionate weight trainer and it has always aggravated me to have to wait in lines for people who use the gym facilities as a social gathering place. I would like to shed some advice for all of those individuals: A quick Friday or Monday workout before you go out isn't going to help you lose those 15 pounds. So, I propose that instead of the staff at the White Building just checking IDs and regulating the cardio equipment for mere 20-minute usage, they also regulate the usage of the other equipment to keep an orderly pace.

Everyone is entitled to usage because they do pay for it. I ask you though, what good does it do to go to the gym once or twice a semester or once or twice a week? Some may argue that a little is better than nothing, but it takes consistency. Also, pausing for great lengths in between each of your sets does you no good, nor the person waiting for you. So, let those of us who take this sport seriously enjoy the facilities that we also pay for.
