Four businessmen, a state senator, a television producer, a well-known photographer and a professor in Taiwan have each been awarded Penn State's 2003 Distinguished Alumni Award, the university's highest award for an individual. They are:
Peter Carlino (Class of 1969), chairman and chief executive of the casino, riverboat and racetrack operating company Penn National Gaming, Inc.
Thomas Clarke (Class of 1980), president of new business ventures at Nike, Inc.
Kenneth Frazier (Class of 1975), senior vice president and general counsel for Merck & Co.
Paul Levine (Class of 1969), co-executive producer and co-creator of CBS's new court drama First Monday.
Albert Lord (Class of 1967), vice chairman and chief executive of SLM Corp., which runs the student loan business known as Sallie Mae.
Roger Madigan (Class of 1951), Republican state senator for Bradford County and a Penn State trustee emeritus.
Steve McCurry (Class of 1974), the international freelance photographer known especially for his work in Asia for National Geographic magazine.
Kirby Chaur-shin Yung (Class of 1978), Taiwan's former minister of education and a professor at National Taiwan Normal University.
