Dear Mr. Rendell: On this, the day you are sworn in as governor of our fine commonwealth, we ask you this -- remember how you won the election.
You campaigned successfully on the platforms of economy and education.
You said you would work to bring jobs back to Pennsylvania and raise the state's share of the cost of paying for public schools, and your record has shown you can do it.
As mayor of Philadelphia, you proved your ability to lead our state to an economic turnaround similar to that of Philadelphia's in the 1990s. Hopefully, by doing so, you will bring new jobs to Pennsylvania while keeping existing jobs here, putting a stop to the dreaded "brain drain."
Each year, thousands of students graduate from Penn State, but increasingly, these graduates are forced to leave the state that helped to fund their education to find jobs.
But in the process of making Pennsylvania an economically viable state, please do not resort to "stealing" businesses from other states by providing incentives like tax breaks, which cause other problems and hurt everyone.
Most of all, we ask you do not forgot us -- the college students whose education you are funding.
The young vote definitely played a part in getting you elected and we hope you will return the favor by remembering our needs and issues.
It seems every year students are forced to pay higher tuition to attend University Park and the Penn State commonwealth campuses, causing a financial strain on the students and their parents.
After all, students are the ones who will eventually take control of this state.
It is well known Pennsylvania needs to have jobs to keep college students here after graduation, but the state must first keep high school graduates in the state to obtain their degrees.
We ask simply that you keep your promises to the people of Pennsylvania who elected you on your word.
