Sorority members accepted new Panhellenic Council administration positions and rush procedures at the first Panhellenic Council delegates' meeting of the semester.
Allison Henke took the place of new member coordinator.
"I wanted this position because I wanted more Greek unity with all Greeks and build onto that," Henke (junior-biobehavioral health) said. "I want all Greek sororities to get to know each other more."
The Panhellenic Council also discussed the schedule for this year's rush, which goes through the end of January. The next event will be a mixer at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Pollock Commons.
"One of my big goals is to bring out the more positive aspects of Greek life philanthropy," said Caryn Garthwaite, vice president of membership. "Hopefully girls will see that and see how wonderful sororities can be."
Garthwaite and Henke agreed about the importance of promoting a positive image of Greek life and introducing sororities to one another.
"I want to get to know a lot of different people from a lot of different sororities," said Henke. "Not just my own."
The delegates made a donation to the Eating Disorder Team's "How to Help a Friend" campaign. They decided to make a $100 donation because they strongly felt that it affects many women in the Greek community and other women on campus. "We all know someone who is affected or knows someone who is affected by this disorder," said Mary Kaye Jacono, president. "I think this is a really good cause."
Rebecca Dempsey (junior-marketing), the newly appointed vice president of standards, encouraged more enthusiasm around campus and the community about Greek life.
"I think that when Panhellenic gets together these wonderful minds can accomplish so much," Dempsey said. "My goal is to be approachable unlike years past. [The Panhellenic Council] is there for every chapter on campus."
Amy Dietrich, associate vice president, will be overseeing the special events this year including Greek Week, formerly known as Spring Week, to be held March 6-12.
"My main goal is to keep everything organized and try not to add too many new programs," Dietrich said. "My goal for Greek Week is to bring everyone together from Greek council where we can all take part in different community service projects."
The meeting also covered administration positions that still needed to be filled. The council has yet to fill the community relations chairwoman and Web coordinator positions.
