"People can vote for their favorite tree by dropping money or change in a bin next to the tree they choose," said Theresa Camberg, assistant youth and teen services director at the State College Area YMCA.
Community organizations, businesses, clubs and civic groups will decorate 100 trees, said Mitzy Hansen, member service representative at the YMCA.
There will be many other activities at the festival to keep children and adults entertained, including folk singers, string bands and carolers throughout the week and a model train display every day, Hansen said.
Callanish, a local Irish and Scottish traditional music group will perform tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. following the State High Dance Team, which will perform from 4:30 to 5 p.m., Hansen said.
Children can get their pictures taken with Santa tomorow from 4 to 7 p.m and Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m. Photos with Santa cost $3 and benefit the Teen Leaders Club.
Vendors at the festival will sell everything from dried and silk floral to baked goods to handmade sweaters and ponchos. There will also be a food booth serving many tasty treats, Hansen said.
Admission is $1 for adults, and children 17 and under get in free. Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit the State College Area YMCA. For more information, visit www.scaymca.org or call the YMCA at 814-237-7717.
