NEWS

The wait won't be long now.

L. J. for the Heisman.

A 23-year-old Penn State student was arraigned yesterday for allegedly slicing his roommate's hand after a dispute over dirty dishes.

State College Mayor Bill Welch remembers vividly the days in the early 1950s when he and his young friends would crowd around the towering, circular iron magazine rack inside the sprawling Hoy Brothers general store on College Avenue.

On Nov. 28, 1997, Sgt. Ben Chavez, a police officer in Oxnard, Calif., questioned Oliverio Martinez without reading him the Miranda warning -- an alleged violation of Martinez's constitutional rights.

As the end of the semester nears, students planning on transferring to University Park are feeling the pressure to find housing.

Jack Kelley was terrified.

In the fall of their freshman year, new students are presented with a large university, hundreds of organizations on campus, and lecture classes that could rival some high schools in size. Finding a niche in this kind of environment can be a difficult task for new students.

SPORTS

Tonight, when St. Joseph's comes into the Bryce Jordan Center at 7 to face the No. 11 Penn State women's basketball team it will be a tired team facing its second top 15 opponent in three days.

They shuffled in forward after forward into the lineup, and the Penn State men's basketball team had no answer.

It ended with a loss, but the Penn State women's soccer season was not lost.

After last year's season was plagued with injuries, the Penn State women's gymnastics team is looking forward to returning to its traditional ways in the upcoming season.

Time to reflect on two early-season losses may have been just what the No. 18 Penn State men's swimming and diving team needed to wake itself up and prevent the season from slipping away.

The Penn State fencing team turned in another solid performance this past weekend at the NAC Open in Columbus, Ohio.

My Opinion: Chris Korman

SCIHEALTH

Students who experience excessive daytime fatigue despite getting an adequate amount of sleep at night might unknowingly be suffering from sleep apnea, experts say.

Although the snow is finally melting, evidence of wintry weather remains on campus.

The bed and a person's sleeping position can make the difference between a restful night's sleep and an uncomfortable one.

My Opinion: Going home for break can be stressful if not prepared

My Opinion: HIV, AIDS remains an issue on college campuses, at Penn State

ARTS

Don't call Townhall a jam band.

WEATHER

More sun than clouds. High 36.
