They shuffled in forward after forward into the lineup, and the Penn State men's basketball team had no answer.
The starting frontcourt for Pittsburgh all tallied double figures in points. Swingman Jaron Brown scored 10 points, power forward Dontas Zavackas led the team with 20 points and Toree Morris netted 10 points in the middle. Chevon Troutman scored 10 points off the bench, all of which came in the first half.
The only forward that saw significant minutes that didn't score in double digits was Ontario Lett. Lett did enough damage against the Nittany Lions in last season's game to make up for this season. In the 2001 game, Lett connected on all seven shots from the field and scored 16 points. Pittsburgh men's basketball coach Ben Howland is pleased with the combination that he can play at the power forward. Zavackas starts the game and is the least physical of the Panthers' big men. Troutman, a 6-foot-7 power forward, is very physical and bangs in the low post. In the first half, the Williamsport native was able to gain post position against the Lions' forwards and scored possession after possession as halfway through the half as Troutman registered four of the five baskets.
"We have two great four[power forward] men," Howland said. "We can be very versatile at that position, and there even times when we played both at the same time. So we have a lot of different options."
