Letter to the Editor
Country acts' coverage poor in the Collegian

In response to the Friday, Dec. 6, review of Tim McGraw's new album:

I've been a huge country music fan for many years now, and Tim McGraw is my favorite country singer. His music is very unique in that it can make you smile, make you dance, make you cry and make you feel inspired. Obviously, I'm not the only one, seeing how many of Tim's albums have reached platinum status. (His latest album is on its way.) Dante DelVecchio wrote, "Though still labeled country, Tim McGraw..." What exactly does this mean? Does all county music have to be about chewing tobacco, working on a farm and having certain relations with relatives? If DelVecchio knew anything about country music, he would realize that country is far from any of that. DelVecchio also says one of the biggest surprises is when Tim covers Elton John's song "Tiny Dancer." Again, if he knew anything about country or Tim McGraw, he would realize that this isn't such a big surprise. Tim has been opening with "Tiny Dancer" at his concerts for the past two years.

DelVecchio also tries to point out how Tim is only in it for the money and that he married Faith Hill only because of her popularity and success. This is absolutely absurd. Tim and Faith are so passionately in love with one another.

Another issue I have is with the lack of coverage of country concerts held at the Bryce Jordan Center. There have been reviews in the Collegian on concerts from Weezer and Korn. What about the Toby Keith concert or the George Strait concert this past semester? They are multi-platinum artists and should be reviewed.
