Hunters' fees help conservation efforts
Despite Adam Kapp's claim to be stuck in the middle of the hunting issue, I believe it's obvious that he's decidedly anti-hunting. I would like to point out that the idea of hunters as conservationists isn't an oxymoron. Many non-hunters who claim to be conservationist do nothing more than talk. Hunters, on the other hand, pay a tax on all sporting goods that goes toward conservation efforts such as research funding and habitat protection. In Pennsylvania, the state Game Commission purchases and maintains several million acres of forest and farm land for everyone's recreational use. That's right; hunters pay for forest land that many people take for granted. There is also more to the hunting for sport/food issue. I don't need the meat to survive the winter. I hunt because I enjoy cooking and eating the game and because hunting is in my blood. I also have nothing but contempt for those who waste any such game animals. I thought by now that Penn State would have taught us that judging a group of people by the actions of a few fringe deviants is quite ignorant. Anyone who wishes to continue to discuss this issue should feel free to e-mail me. Joel Kuhns
