State College Borough is providing free parking in the business district during the holiday shopping season. Free parking for shoppers is now in effect and will continue until Dec. 31.

On Saturdays and Sundays, parking is available in garages and lots from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Parking is also available in the lots and garages between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. on weekdays.

In addition, the Downtown State College Improvement District is instituting a courtesy program in which parking meter enforcement workers will put quarters in expired meters.

Personnel are continuing to enforce meters but will use the quarters to give expired meters a grace period of 25 minutes.
