Letter to the Editor
Johnson takes success in stride, with humility

Throughout the 2002 Penn State football season, Larry Johnson provided the students and other fans with endless exciting moments. While the fans in Beaver Stadium wildly celebrated each of Johnson's touchdowns, Larry was showing the rest of the country something else -- nothing but class. Whether it's a 1-yard push into the end zone or a 38-yard break into history, Larry Johnson never changes his system. With a pump of the fist, he hands the ball off to the official and heads back to the sidelines. No excessive celebration necessary. While a large portion of today's college players seem to spend their time practicing their latest unsportsmanlike celebrations, Larry Johnson is trying to decide who to give credit to in the post-game press conference. His respect for his teammates, coaches and anyone who's ever played the game is unmatched. There's a lot to be said for Johnson's attitude on and off the field. Let's hope it doesn't go unnoticed when it's time to vote. Larry Johnson for Heisman: not only for being the most outstanding player in college football, but also for the being one of the most respectable and classy individuals to ever play the game.
