For most men, fashion shows are about as exciting as a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond -- unless you are talking about the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Every year, for one night only, millions of viewers get the chance to ogle at beautiful models in low-cut lingerie on free television.
If you were watching CBS' presentation of the show this week, however, you might have been left desiring one thing: more models.
The program, which featured supermodels Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks, consisted of only three short segments highlighting the women on the catwalk.
What did the rest of the hour-long special feature? Forced banter between hosts Klum and Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, out-of-place musical guests and a series of bland backstage, comedic segments. The show, for instance, featured a vignette on the life of a supermodel's personal assistant. While it was somewhat humorous, the segment was one of many that made the program seem more silly than sexy.
Worse were the musical guests. In probably the show's most embarrassing moment, Destiny's Child performed a Christmas song. The last time I checked, the holiday season started the day after Thanksgiving, not a week before. Besides, what does Christmas have to do with women's underwear (unless you're talking about some interesting gifts)?
"Why didn't we just order porn?" my roommate asked halfway through the mostly model-less show. I'm sure many others were asking the same question.Grade: C
