Finally, Larry Johnson is getting some much deserved attention from the national media. Saturday's game turned into a three-hour Larry Johnson infomercial, where commentators Mark Malone and Sean Salisbury were pitching LJ to the Heisman voters. Nobody really could see this coming, but LJ is about to finish possibly the finest individual season in Penn State history. He has quietly amassed more than 2,000 total yards, 19 touchdowns and averages a sweet 7.5 yards per carry. He's so hot right now, running for more than 1,100 yards in the past 5 games; that's just insane.
Johnson should be one of the favorites to win the prestigious Heisman Trophy, but for some reason has been forgotten. LJ is terrorizing everyone he plays against, which speaks volumes, because Penn State has the fourth toughest schedule in the nation.
Maybe if his team had come out on top in the overtime losses to Iowa and Michigan, it would be a different story. But the Heisman is awarded to the "Most Outstanding Player," not the Most Valuable Player (MVP). No matter how many losses his team has, it shouldn't effect the voting. Larry Johnson deserves some credit for his truly spectacular season. LJ, start practicing your Heisman pose.
