PSU shouldn't mandate certain moral positions
It's unclear to me why Amber Pawlik and Jonathan Barry continue to spend their time and money attending this university -- or any university for that matter -- since it's obvious that they object to what the university embodies. While focused on their abhorrence of Penn State's shredded moral fabric, they seem to have forgotten the true purpose of our institution that they benefit from each day. The university is here to foster ideas, encourage learning beyond the high-school level and open the minds of its students to consider and perhaps challenge their moral and social ideas. But the university's responsibility ends there. It doesn't need to mandate what our moral standards should be, for we are all maturing adults, capable of making our own right and wrong based on our previous upbringing and experiences. It's not the university's position to parent us, nor does it strive to tear down traditions. It's goal is only to show us the viewpoints of those who differ from us. Academic achievement and personal growth, Ms. Pawlik: That's all the university has ever wanted. Valerie Little
