Lady Icers juggle lineups in weekend competition
After two tough losses last week, the women's ice hockey team came out strong against BU.

The Penn State Lady Icers left Boston University without a loss for the first time in team history this past Saturday.

The Lady Icers tied BU, 2-2, on Saturday afternoon and defeated Massachusetts-Amherst on Sunday morning, 5-2, in two very important league games.

After dropping two games to Neumann College last week and losing right winger Kate Specchio to a broken leg, the team came out strong in two crucial ACHA matchups.

Penn State Lady Icers coach Jeremy Sharpe juggled his lines around after the team managed to score only two goals the previous weekend. Sophomore Stephanie Feyock was moved from defense to right wing to play alongside Alex McVicker and team captain Katie King. The move worked as Feyock scored the team's only two goals against BU and added one more goal against UMass-Amherst.

"We were getting a lot of shots on rebounds," Feyock said. "Our line really came together."

Feyock has played offense in the past prior to joining the Icers, but this was the first time she had played right wing since joining the team last year as a freshman. Feyock said she doesn't prefer offense over defense, but enjoys playing at both ends of the ice.

The Lady Icers beat BU for the first time last year in the ACHA National Championship Tournament, but had never left BU's arena without a loss until Saturday. For added motivation, the Lady Icers watched the video of their victory in last year's tournament on the bus ride up to Boston.

"We were expecting them to come out extra hard and want revenge," Feyock said.

The team played a physical style of defense and limited BU's odd man rushes, playing strong in front of goalie Jen McDevitt.

"We played well defensively as a team," Penn State Lady Icers assistant coach Derek Arledge said. "Teams can expect to get contact when they are near our goalies."

The team also looked strong against UMass-Amherst, as McVicker netted her second hat trick in three weekends. The Lady Icers outshot their opponent, 51-17. Freshman goaltender Tara Wheeler got the start, allowing just two of 17 shots to get past her.

The team improved its ACHA record to 5-0-1, and its overall record to 5-3-1.
