Report other activities of student government
Recently, all I've been reading from The Daily Collegian in regards to the Undergraduate Student Government is negative press such as: They might not know how to follow Robert's Rules of Order (Nov. 7 editorial), or that their union of off-campus students might be a bad idea (Oct. 30 editorial). In a Nov. 7 article, "USG appointment procedure under scrutiny," all that was reported upon was whether or not our vote tally should be made official public information. At this same meeting, I watched senators actively engage in discussion with the State College borough council president and borough manager. Many senators questioned these individuals on such important topics as surveillance camera placement in State College borough, and the borough's plans for keeping all of its residents safe. However, this wasn't deemed to be newsworthy. In addition, in the Oct. 30 editorial, the board of opinion stated that the union is too tied down with red tape, and that if we wanted to truly help off-campus students, we should pursue this through our location in the HUB-Robeson Center. First, it will be more convenient for students living in town to have an in-town location to voice their concerns. Second, once undertaken, this effort will be far too large to occur within our currently existing facilities. However, in the meantime, if a student has a concern, they are more than welcome to come to our current office and we will help them in any capacity we can. That's why we're here. John Krohn
USG town senator
