The Republican candidate for the General Assembly in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 76th District, John Krupa, is among many candidates and incumbents throughout the country, including President George W. Bush, who signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform.
He said he would commit himself to a comprehensive overhaul of the state's school finance system during the 2003-04 legislative session.
Krupa believes this system should both increase the reimbursement rate of state instructional expenditures to school districts, and reduce the spending gap between the lowest- and highest-spending school districts in the state. Other legislative priorities for Krupa include creating jobs, phasing out Pennsylvania's capital stock and franchise tax, lowering Pennsylvania's corporate income tax rate to better compete with other states, and providing a prescription drug benefit for seniors.
A lifelong resident of the 76th District, Krupa is in his second six-year term as Pine Creek township supervisor.
The Democratic Pennsylvania House of Representatives incumbent Mike Hanna is seeking another term in office.
He is running against Republican candidate John T. Krupa.
Hanna represents the 76th District, which includes Centre and Clinton counties.
Hanna said he favors abortion rights on some issues.
Hanna supports a large increase in funding for education.
He has held his seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 1991.
He also said he is in favor of decreasing certain income and property taxes.
Hanna is in favor of repealing state restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
Hanna is a member of the finance, game and fisheries. He also was on the tourism and recreational development committees.
He lives in Lock Haven.
