Who's who in today's state elections: General Assembly representative 77th district

Lynn Herman, Republican

Lynn B. Herman is the Republican candidate for Representative in the General Assembly for the 77th District.

Herman is in his 19th year as a member of the state House, serving since 1983.

He graduated from Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School in 1974.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1978 from the University of Pittsburgh and also a Master's degree in 1980.

Herman is a legislator and lives in State College with his wife Barbara.

Recently, there was a redistricting of the State College area.

Before the redistricting, all of State College Borough was represented by Herman.

Now the borough is cut three ways and is shared by both the 77th and the 171st districts.

Herman has been a supporter of increasing state appropriations and financial aid to Penn State because it is a land-grant university.

He has advocated in the past the importance of Penn State to the state and keeping allocations up.

Herman has worked on legislature to help fifth-year college students with financial aid.

The 77th voting district includes: the Philipsburg Borough, South Philipsburg Borough, and Ferguson, Halfmoon, Huston, Patton, Taylor and Worth Townships.

Richard Zych, Libertarian

Richard Zych is the Libertarian candidate for representative in the General Assembly in the 77th District.

Zych is running against Republican Lynn Herman(R-Centre), who currently holds the position.

Last year, Zych represented the Libertarian party and ran for a seat on the State College Borough Council, but did not win a position.

Zych is one of 13 members of the Libertarian party running for a public office this year.

Zych is a local business owner, who has two local stores.

The Tall Shiva Hookah Lounge, 224 W. College Ave., and a newly added store at East College Avenue, Simply Kind/Tall Shiva East.

Zych was not available to relay campaign information to the Collegian.
