Women's volleyball
PSU vs. Michigan, 7 p.m. Saturday at MIchigan

A quick review of Michigan's women's volleyball media guide will reveal precious few interesting facts.

This player's favorite movie, this player's favorite food, how many brothers and sisters a player has, things like that.

But there is one portion that has been a source of intense scrutiny and interest to one team in particular.

Each Wolverine player was asked to disclose the highlight or top moment of her volleyball career to date. And, seemingly without fail, each lists sweeping Penn State 3-0 in Ann Arbor last November as that very moment.

It's a fact that hasn't been missed by this year's version of the Nittany Lions, many of whom were among the vanquished in Ann Arbor that night. How could they miss it?

Copies of the individual responses were hanging on the locker room wall three weeks ago when Michigan came to Rec Hall and was soundly defeated by the Lions.

The remarks are again being used for motivation as the Lions (17-3, Big Ten 8-2) return to Michigan (13-8, 7-4) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the first time since the embarrssing defeat.

The Lions will begin the road swing this weekend with a match against No. 25 Michigan State (14-7, 6-5) Friday Night, also at 7.

"Anytime you see something like that written, to see that they're so fired up to beat us, it makes us fired up," junior middle blocker Cara Smith said. "Losing that match out there last year was something that should not have happened.

We need to get on the horse and go out there and beat them."
