Letter to the Editor
Column arguments aren't based in reality

Mike Still need not change the topics of his biweekly column to reflect a false grasp of conservatism. I've enjoyed his well-written columns (none can question that Mike is a gifted writer) as they are, though probably not for the same reasons that many of the leftists on campus do.

I enjoy Mike's columns in the same way that some enjoy The National Enquirer -- for the sheer entertainment value that comes from people who have completely lost touch with reality. Mike isn't alone in this category. Daniel Moore, Adam Kapp and other columnists that appear in this "newspaper" also provide entertainment with their sad display of warped disconnect from the real world.

These columnists learn their tabloid skills honestly, though. Many PSU professors pride themselves on their ability to create an environment in which one can leave reality to exist in a dream world of theories and workshops. The "Teach-in for Peace" was a prime example of dreamworld "groupthink" in action.

I wonder how many of these faculty "experts" have worn the uniform of the U.S. military, or served in the State Department, CIA or any of the national security organizations that keep Americans safe.

Few if any, I would guess. Yet these so-called scholars, whose knowledge of national security matters exists only in the realm of theory and speculation, feel they can unequivocally label a pre-emptive strike against Iraq unjust and unnecessary.

Fortunately for America, our foreign policy is not decided by those in the collegiate fantasy land.
