Endorsed USG leaders failing to follow through
Reading Oct. 30's Daily Collegian, I was reminded of the staff editorial from March 27 -- Undergraduate Student Government election day. In the editorial, you state that "they have identified real problems -- and they have come up with real solutions. ... Their goals are specific and achievable, and they have a good sense of direction." The editorial continues on in the support of the Javeri/Ankarlo ticket. Now, to the articles printed on Oct. 30 detailing the work of USG up until today: It looks as if the Collegian may have misguided voters during the most recent election.
The executive branch has four main platform goals, which are detailed in both papers. The goals are unachievable, however, and this is now being noticed by even most liberal supporters of the administration. The online waiting list will not be completed during the Javeri administration; both the expanded eatery hours and the online health services goals rely almost entirely on the Penn State administration; and the goal of the off-campus union was well scrutinized by the Oct. 30 editorial. It turns out that the four main platform goals that the candidates ran on cannot be completed without major involvement by the PSU administration by I hope that the Collegian spends more time examining the candidates next year before it endorses a ticket. Several other tickets had great platforms, but didn't have a chance at winning because of the Collegian's blind endorsement. Brian Battaglia
