Along with the usual goblins, ghosts and witches this Halloween, there might be an occasional snowman to greet trick-or-treaters.
The weather the past couple of days has been unseasonably cold, with rain, sleet and snow, and some students are reconsidering their plans and their costumes.
"I don't feel like going out when the weather is like this," Drew Zurovcik (senior-finance) said.
He said he was planning to dress up as Miss Penn State but is now reconsidering his costume.
Though the snowy weather is unusual, senior meteorologist Ryan Kuhn at the Campus Weather Service said it isn't unheard of.
In 1993, 3 inches of snow fell in State College on Halloween, Kuhn said.
Marc Spilde, AccuWeather meteorologist at the State College center, said tonight's temperatures will probably be in the low 40s around 5 p.m. and drop into the 30s by 8 p.m.
It is supposed to be mostly cloudy but should dry up by the afternoon, so trick-or-treaters can probably leave their umbrellas at home.
Some students said they aren't going to let the weather stop them from dressing up and going out.
"I usually don't have my costume until the last second, so the weather won't affect it," said Mike Sabol (senior-management sciences and information systems).
Both Kuhn and Spilde suggest wearing layers and altering revealing costumes.
Kara Master (junior-earth and mineral sciences) said she is dressing up as a member of Josie and the Pussycats for work and is probably going to end up wearing pants.
Angelina Brutico (sophomore-premedicine) said the weather won't affect if she goes out or not, but she was surprised it snowed so early in the year.
"I feel like I should be buying Christmas presents," she said.
