Tonight Outlaws Theatre will have its weekly show in the Arts Building -- but in the spirit of Halloween, the show's producers promise something extra special.
The group will present its annual Halloween production at 11:15 p.m. in 119 Arts Building.
"It'll be well worth spending your Halloween evening," Outlaws co-producer Verity Van Tassel (senior-theatre arts) said.
"You'll be shocked and surprised," Van Tassel added.
The Outlaws is a student-run organization that accepts student-written plays and finds student directors to put on a show each week in the Arts Building.
The group's Web site (www.outlawstheatre.com) further describes the group as "original, experimental, late-night black-box theatre."
This year's Halloween special consists of nine short skits written by the Outlaws producers themselves as well as a few other students, including Michael Richards (junior-English and theatre arts).
"My show, Hell To Pay, is a comedy about the decline of mom-and-pop Halloween costume manufacturers at the hands of corporate America," Richards said.
"Basically, it's like Les Misérables. Except without all that singing. Or all those French people. And with more pop culture references."
As for the other shorts, the producers are keeping their lips sealed.
"We try to keep everything top secret," co-producer Nick Leavens (senior-theatre arts) said. "It makes it more fun for everybody."
Co-producer Michael Walkup (senior-theatre arts) dropped some hints, saying that a few of the shorts were spoofs of some of this year's plays being put on by the School of Theatre.
Titles include, The Blairamie Witch Project and A Midsummer Nightmare on Elm Street.
"We promise as much blood and tasteless humor as possible," Walkup said.
"We're making fun of stuff we probably shouldn't," added Leavens. "It's a little bit risque -- that's the best part about it."
As for appropriate apparel, Van Tassel warns those attending not to wear their Sunday best.
Wear clothes that are washable," she warned.
One thing co-producer Kevin Flinn (senior-theatre arts) promises is that "you'll never have more fun with raw sausage, sauerkraut and fake blood in all your life."
The Outlaws Halloween special is expected to last about an hour.
Admission is free of charge.
