Column deserves praise for its biting satire
I was surprised to open up The Daily Collegian recently and find four letters criticizing what I felt was a perfectly written column by Daniel Moore (Oct. 23). Yes, the commentary was biting and satirical, but it was also mostly true. Moore wasn't claiming that Bush was the beltway sniper; he just ingeniously drew a comparison of one homicidal maniac to another. Bush's stance on going to war with Iraq is wrong on many levels. First: If Iraq does have weapons of mass destruction, going to war with the goal of removing Saddam from power will only encourage him to use these weapons. Second: Disregarding the United Nations is historically a dumb move, if the U.N. is supposed to end up differently from other similar groups -- League of Nations, Delian League, etc. I thought Moore's column was great; I would be very surprised if other collegiate newspapers don't pick it up over the U-Wire, and I wish that major media groups would be brave enough to give a similar column a try.
