The Haunted Granary in Lemont is back for its sixth reincarnation, and this time it brought along its scary cousin, the Haunted Preserve in Boalsburg.

One path leads to death, the other to near death.

What do you get when you combine over 100 high school volunteers, a historic granary in need of restoration and a nature preserve in the process of being purchased?

Most people don't think of a trip to pick up some pizza as a life-altering journey. But if they talked to Pulitzer Prize-winning essayist and cultural critic Henry Allen, they might just change their minds.

By relating vivid imagery produced in The Circular Ruins by Jorge Luis Borges, a collaborative group of 23 artists from all over the country have formed an exhibit of the same name. With each painting, sculpture, and print, the exhibit makes a connection to the readings, and with each of the artist's writing that accompanies his or her work, Borges' style has been mimicked.

The ultimate battle of man versus nature will be tackled this weekend by No Refund Theater in its production of The Trial of Grendel.

Students looking for something beyond a trick or a treat Saturday night can turn their ears toward the Pollock Rec Room for some less-than-haunting rock music.

This season, more so than any other, brings to mind grisly images of ghouls, mummies and zombies. While most people dismiss these as fleeting superstitions with no basis in reality, others feel that the occult has something very real to offer -- and not just in October.
