This past Sunday (Oct. 20), I attended an NFL football game in Philadelphia: the Eagles vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Being a long time Bucs fan, I was so excited to have been able to get tickets for a game so close to home. Little did I know Veterans Stadium is not the place to go when you're rooting for the visiting team. From the time I got out of my car until I got back in my car I was harassed, called derogatory names and just plain abused. It wasn't fun at all. I even discovered that the taillight in my car had been busted in because I had left a Bucs flag on the back seat.
Some people may say that Veterans Stadium is like that, you shouldn't go, it's your fault because you wore red or that I shouldn't be so sensitive.
I was abused for six hours because I was rooting for the opposing team. It wasn't supposed to be like going to war.
As we passed every single Eagles fan, without even saying a word or looking at them, they would just look and laugh; they would tell us to go back to Tampa; they would call us a name that I can't print in the newspaper; or they would push us and scream in our face.
This is ridiculous. Bringing to mind what happened at Beaver Stadium during the Nebraska game, this was worse.
I urge anyone who reads this to remind people that our world is full of enough hatred and cruelty that we shouldn't try to create more over a silly game. Something that's supposed to be fun for everyone shouldn't be turned into fun because you're abusing people and vandalizing property. If any of you go to Eagles games or have friends that do, take a moment to realize how ridiculous and immature this behavior is.
