Letter to the Editor
Groups shouldn't host parties in 'dry week'

The Penn State greek community should be bowing their heads in shame this past week for the belligerent and obviously ignorant remarks made in letters. It disgusts me that organizations that can collectively raise more than $3 million annually for a more-than-worthy cause can darken that great feat with clouds of disgrace. You claim to be a positive pillar in the community, but how can one trust your credibility when a fraternity furnishes alcohol at a party you admittedly sponsored during "dry week"? The tragic event that followed this party is made all the worse by the fact that you could not keep your drinks untapped for one week as a measure of good faith. I would also like to ask Christian Boris ("IFC guidelines make greek parties safer," Oct. 23 letter) where he finds the justification in claiming that banning kegs makes parties safer by eliminating the risk of "party drugs" ending up in an open cup? That's meaningless; it could just as well end up in an open can. Being the organizations that you are, you are in the community spotlight; please try to uphold some credibility.
