The Class of 2003 is deciding on part of its legacy this week.
The proposals for this year's senior class gift include replacing benches along the malls by Pattee Library and Henderson Building; planting an "alumni" garden to compliment the Hintz Family Alumni Center; and painting historical murals in the HUB-Robeson Center.
We think this last idea would be an excellent addition to one of the most popular buildings on University Park campus.
There are two big town-and-gown precedents: the famous land-grant murals inside the lobby of Old Main and the recently completed "Inspiration" mural downtown overlooking Hiester Street, just steps from Atherton Hall.
Alumni and visitors to the area treasure these artistic depictions of Happy Valley, and if the final project is anything as good as those two works, we'll have something to be proud of.
Let's hope that if seniors decide on the murals as their gift, the university will find a team of artists up to that task.
If you're set to graduate next calendar year, there's still time to vote today and tomorrow.
