Stress is something that attacks most college students at one time or another.
For many at Penn State, seeking out a place to get away from the things that have them pulling out their hair is one way of dealing with that stress.
We asked a number of Penn State students where, on campus or off, they go to get away from what gets to them.
Their answers varied.
"In the pool room of the HUB, shooting pool. It helps me keep my mind off my studies."
Joe Kilhof
(senior-criminal justice)
"Wendy's, because the food is delicious and reasonably priced."
Jeff Rubin
(junior-advertising)
"The steps of Old Main. It's outside, and one of the least-crowded places on campus, so you don't feel like you're surrounded."
Maggie Brooks
(senior-marketing)
"The HUB, because that's where my friends meet."
Alisha Witmer
(senior-philosophy)
"I like the strip of grass between Old Main and the engineering buildings. There's a lot of hustle and bustle, but you can still concentrate and do work, or just rest."
Jenny Bosick
(freshman-engineering)
"On the lawn of Old Main. Everyone is in different groups, doing different things, like meditating or relaxing. Plus it's a university tradition."
Jordan Pascoe
(junior-biology)
"The art studios, in particular the Visual Arts building. There's a certain family atmosphere there between the other arts majors."
Amanda Hauser
(junior-arts)
"The HUB downstairs, because that's where the people are."
Jea Lee
(senior-hotel management)
"The Boucke Greenhouse. They have a pond there and it's very peaceful and relaxing."
Anne Watson
(senior-physics)
"I like to sit in the Peace Garden and read a book. It's relaxing and not many people congregate there, unlike at the HUB."
Holly Rosene
(sophomore-journalism)
"The Walker Building, on the roof. Nobody else is ever up there."
Melanie Cobb
(junior-English)
"The HUB lawn. It's a relaxing place with grass and trees instead of buildings and concrete. It's a nice place to get away."
Michael Bortnichak
(junior-crime, law and justice)
"Behind the library. It's quiet and peaceful, and I like the sound of people walking by."
Charlotte Laborde
(freshman-division of undergraduate studies)
"The quad in front of Old Main when it's nice out. It's quiet and there's never too much going on."
Tasha Teelucksingh
(sophomore-public relations)
"At the water fountain by the HUB. It's quiet and peaceful."
Ashleigh Kilner
(junior-crime, law and justice)
"The HUB, because you get the atmosphere of studying as well as the atmosphere of socializing."
Felicia Smith
(junior-communications)
"Simmons Dining Hall. It's not really crowded, the food is good, and there's random TV channels on all day."
Tom Burkholder
(freshman-electrical engineering)
"The HUB, because there're always lots of people and the TV. It's an easy central place on campus to meet people for a meal or study group."
Cheryl Biggio
(freshman-science)
"My room. Everyone leaves me alone."
Kira Dreher
(freshman-English)
"The main floor of the HUB. A lot of people sleep or study. People meet and converse, but it's still quiet. I like the comfy seats too."
Milton Newberry
(sophomore-wildlife and fishery science)
