Letter to the Editor
Spanier's participation in ad was appreciated

On Monday, Oct. 7, The New York Times published an ad condemning the virulent outbreaks of anti-Zionism, anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism on American college campuses.

A multitude of university presidents from across North America have accepted, endorsed and taken a pledge to fight this current manifestation of anti-Democracy and anti-Semitism that is clouding and preventing a proper discourse on university campuses "without threats, taunts or intimidation." These presidents have shown that they believe in the freedom of people on their campuses to express their beliefs without the fear of retribution.

On behalf of the Penn State University community that supports America, Israel and our joint endeavor against modern terrorism, I applaud the efforts of Penn State President Graham Spanier, who has publicly opposed this outrage that makes a mockery of the First Amendment.
