NEWS

A bicyclist and a pedestrian were injured in separate accidents involving motorists yesterday on Atherton Street.

The parliamentarian's seat at Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate meetings was filled last night.

Messages of peace were the inspiration for "Cards that Care," an event sponsored by the First Year Students of Hillel (FYSH).

Kegs, cases of beer and coasters at local bars now come with an added bonus -- a message about responsible drinking from the University Park Campus Community Partnership.

To say that Sue Smith is involved in the State College community would be an understatement.

The next few weeks will be busy ones for Penn State's advisers.

Career service officials said disabled people are one of the most overlooked groups in society despite the fact that its members come from all walks of life.

Students who sometimes find themselves using a fire extinguisher while attempting to cook dinner in their apartments might be interested in attending the third annual Student Fire Safety Expo.

Penn State launched e-portfolios (www.portfolio.psu.edu) this fall to help students document their experiences.

SPORTS

No one expected the Penn State men's soccer team to be hovering around the .500 mark halfway through the season.

It wasn't visible in Tim Duncan's eyes, or Aaron McKie's drives to the basket.

They made a statement, and they made it loud.

It was not a repeat performance of the Michigan game or the 2000 Maryland game.

The guys in black and white stripes haven't been having an easy year in the Big Ten.

Having the No. 9 women's volleyball team in the country usually implies individual accolades as well.

Like Tom Sawyer whitewashing Aunt Polly's fence, starting the Big Ten season seemed like such a good idea for the Penn State football team.

Losing is not something the Penn State men's club soccer team is accustomed to, and not something it plans to make a habit.

Two straight shutouts.
