NEWS

A flier posted on a door of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) office for today's National Coming Out Day rally was defaced yesterday. The incident caused pain, but student leaders have resolved to stand strong.

About 4,500 Centre County residents put their personal agendas on hold yesterday to volunteer their services for the ninth annual PNC Bank/United Way Day of Caring.

Once a week the country air blows through downtown State College, bringing the scents of fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and baked goods.

In a forum beginning the weekend-long celebration surrounding National Coming Out Day, four students led a discussion of the issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and allied (LGBTA) community by telling their personal stories last night.

Some students enrolled in the Penn State Washington Program this semester have started the internships it offers later than they expected.

In downtown State College, six shoe stores go the extra mile to stand out in what would otherwise be a saturated market, bringing a unique flavor to the area, local shoe store managers said.

A social justice block party will take place today on the HUB lawn to educate Penn State about injustices in society and to entertain them with performances.

Open houses and behind the scenes tours will mark this semester's parents and families weekend. Various Penn State colleges and organizations will be opening their doors today and tomorrow to offer visitors a glimpse into life at Penn State.

A Bellefonte man was arrested on multiple charges of robbery in connection with a Wednesday night robbery of a local convenience store.

A new path of Buddhism is emerging among modern followers who are seeking a more active role in society. The new practice, socially engaged Buddhism, allows its members to honor traditional Buddhism and also voice their opinions on social issues.

The parties come to an end, and the students are walking home with the late night munchies, passing numerous pizza places with lines halfway down the block.

If students plan to use fake IDs in State College bars, they should know even the best of those IDs won't get very far, area bar managers say.

SPORTS

And to think, the season was rolling along so nicely.

All week it has been hearing the horror stories.

There are two choices.

It's happened too many times this season.

A quick look down the roster of Penn State's women's volleyball team and its midwestern feel is hard to miss.

Looking tired, but not exhausted, Keith Van Horn finished his final sprint to close out his third practice as a Philadelphia 76er.

The long and winding road to the Big Ten field hockey championship continues.

The worst time to face a team is when it is coming off of a humiliating defeat.

After being on the road for its first two tournaments of the fall season, the Penn State women's tennis team returns to the Sarni Tennis Facility this weekend to host the PSU Fall Tournament starting today at 9 a.m. and lasting until Sunday.

The time has come to stop talking about potential and just go out and win.

What would you say if someone told you Penn State had a sailing team? You would think he or she was crazy, right?

Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras have barely had a chance to enjoy the comfort of the living room La-Z-Boy.

Luis Gonzalez hopped in the air as he reached first base when his single landed at the edge of the infield dirt.

Finally, a good night's sleep.

ARTS

Last spring left a lot of unanswered questions for fans of NBC's Thursday night lineup: Did Ross propose to Rachel? Did Grace get pregnant with Will's baby? Did Dr. Carter survive the smallpox outbreak? Did J.D. work out everyone's problems?

I am a beautiful, powerful woman. I love each unique soul gracing this glorious earth. The glass is not half full; it's entirely full. Of wine! Listen to India.Arie enough and you too could find yourself gushing with content confidence.

Those who don't already know about The Lion and the Witch probably won't care.

Ever hear a song for the first time and feel your cheeks burn, sensing that the artist must have written the lyrics about you? That he tapped into your brain somehow and cemented what he found into a mellifluous, stingingly personal ballad?

The much anticipated season premiere of Friends can be summed up with one word: disappointing. Wait, maybe two words would do it justice: wasted airtime.

Beck's seeing a lot of changes on his latest album, Sea Change.

Words commonly heard by students walking between Sackett Building and Willard Building might be, "What is that?"

WEATHER

Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. High 73.
