Protests disrupt events, don't achieve progress
In response to a recent letter ("Knowledge of protests in D.C. was lacking," Oct. 1): Every time the International Monetary Fund and World Bank get together, there's a huge show put on by militant demonstrators that seek to disrupt such proceedings in any way they can. These protesters who use verbal abuse and violence to help because they think that will stop a global entity. Although the IMF and World Bank are not angels, they do their best with the situation. It saddens me that anyone from a university like Penn State would not only side with these protesters but seek to assist them in their goal of chaos right in our nation's capital. I would think with every other part of the world slipping further and further into disorder, we might want to keep our homeland a little more tranquil, if not for me then for the children. Next time I pick up the paper, I hope I don't read about someone crying over nobody going to D.C. to help incite a riot on the steps of the world's greatest capital. Not everyone wants to be a martyr. Eric Ronan
