A Bellefonte man was arrested on multiple charges of robbery in connection with a Wednesday night robbery of a local convenience store.
The alleged robbery led Patton Township police on a high-speed chase.
Steven A. Shawley, 47, and another individual allegedly entered Choice Cigarettes, 2110 N. Atherton St., and stole about $120.
The other man is still at large, but police said an arrest is expected.
Shawley was arraigned yesterday on charges of robbery, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy at District Justice Carmine Prestia's office.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
According to police documents, the following occurred:
Shawley and another man entered the North Atherton Street store wearing shirts tied over their heads like bonnets. The men then walked to the counter and asked the cashier for money.
After the incident, the two men fled the scene in an orange-colored vehicle. After a description of the vehicle was relayed to other police agencies, the State College Police Department saw a vehicle fitting the description on the 1100 block of North Atherton Street.
Police tried to stop the vehicle, which led the vehicle to flee at a high rate of speed. It was eventually involved in an accident at Barnard Street and Prospect Avenue.
After the accident, the suspects fled on foot.
Shawley was eventually arrested at State College High School.
