'Friends'

The much anticipated season premiere of Friends can be summed up with one word: disappointing. Wait, maybe two words would do it justice: wasted airtime.

The episode left me with a bad taste in my mouth and a question left unanswered. It picks up where last season left off, when -- after Rachel (Jennifer Aniston)gave birth to daughter Emma -- she mistakenly thought Joey (Matt leBlanc) proposed to her and said yes.

In the Sept. 26 season premiere, Joey tries to explain to Rachel that he did not indeed propose; however, his tries are either derailed by his fellow cast members' asinine cameos or misled by Rachel's breastfeeding.

The show's sole attempt at comedy is Monica (Courtney Cox Arquette) and Chandler's (Matthew Perry) sporadic attempts to become pregnant, not to mention the couple being caught doing you-know-what in the janitor's closet by Monica's dad.

I was annoyed watching the cast members trying to act semi-enthused in this dry plotting. And that's not all. The episode ends with Ross' disappointment in finding out Rachel actually agreed to Joey's fake proposal. I hope this cliffhanger of an ending is just an editing glitch.

The question left lingering is: What will happen with Ross and Rachel, the couple that was "meant to be"? At this point, I've lost all patience in what the answer might be. Let's just hope the rest of the season makes up for this disappointing premiere.
