Penn State students will soon have another resource available to them: the PA POWER Libraries. It is a statewide program that allows any citizen to access information databases through public library Web sites.
Beginning tomorrow the Schlow Memorial Library will be holding Schlow To Go, a class to teach students and adults how to access the PA POWER Libraries and other online features.
"I think the best thing is that people can find information during times when the library is not open, which is something else students might find helpful, since their schedules are usually unpredictable," said Pat Griffith, the adult services librarian and teacher of Schlow To Go.
One of the largest databases that can be accessed is a magazine index, which is an archive of thousands of magazines in full text. Also available are a dictionary of art, a poem finder with more than 70,000 poems, The Associated Press multimedia archives of photos and an archive of newspaper articles and television and radio transcripts. A few of the databases are geared toward school-age children.
The class will run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Gates Computer Lab at Schlow Memorial Library. Griffith asked that participants sign up in advance because the class is limited to 14 people. To register for the free class, call 235-7816.
